THE STORY

The Story

The West Winds Gin story begins back in 2009 when James Clarke, a world weary wine industry pro, and his mate, Paul ‘The Doctor’ White, hatched a plan over a long dinner to utilise the 150 litre pot still Paul had imported from Germany to make an Australian gin.

Paul and James then teamed up with spirit industry identities Jeremy Spencer (ex Brown Foreman and formerly of Woodford Reserve and Appleton Estate Rum) and his partner in crime Jason Chan (ex 42BELOW WORLD CUP CHAMPION and Partner in Seamstress and the Greenhouse) and created The Tailor Made Spirits Company – a business whose sole aim was produce a range of Australian made, contemporary spirits whilst having fun along the way.

Our first project was The West Winds Gin where we were looking to create two unique styles using local and imported botanicals that would be cut with triple filtered Margaret River rain water.

Just a month after launching, we entered the 2011 San Francisco International Spirit Awards and won Gold for The West Winds Gin The Sabre and Double Gold for The West Winds Gin The Cutlass – a feat that has placed us at the head of an emerging group of artisanal distillers from across both the old and new worlds.

In 2013 we repeated our success in San Francisco, affirming our position in the world gin arena.
