FandL NEWS: THE WEST WINDS GIN TAKES OUT NATIONAL TITLE
24-Mar-2015
The West Winds Gin has added another prestigious title to its name, with itsThe Sabre concoction having recently been awarded the Champion Trophy for Gin at the inaugural Australian Distilled Spirits Awards (ADSA), which are conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV).
The Margaret River-based gin distillery has received extensive recognition within the local market of late. It took out the Champion Gin title at last year's Royal Melbourne Fine Food awards, and was recognised as the Best On-Premise spirit brand at the 2013 ALIA awards.
The West Winds Gin has also taken home a slew of international awards, despite only launching overseas four years ago. In 2011 The Sabre received a Gold Medal in San Francisco, and the company’sThe Cutlass concoction received Double Gold Medals in both 2011 and 2013 in the Californian city. More recently, The Broadside was awarded a Double Gold Medal in New York in 2014.
These impressive award wins could be down to the unique ingredients The West Winds Gin team use to make their products, which include Australian native botanicals such as wattle seed and bush tomato, along with rain waters sourced from the Margaret River region.
Jez Spencer, The West Winds Gin head of sales, booze, and buccaneering said: “We love the smaller of the swords, The Sabre. It's our tip of the hat to the great Gin houses of old and a well-balanced introduction to the London dry styles – which we often describe as the missionary position of gins... not overtly complex but satisfying nevertheless.
“Drink it with tonic, lots of ice and fresh lemon or in your favourite citrus based gin cocktail. As for the ADSA Champion Trophy, well, it's incredibly exciting and humbling to be recognised again for the high quality of our Gins by such solid luminaries. Respect."
